John W. "Jack" Lindley, 91, of West Union, IL, died November 25, 2020, at Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Marshall, IL. He was born October 16, 1929, outside of West Union, the son of William Henry Lindley & Emma Cleo (Wells) Lindley, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Edwards. He is survived by his sister, Virginia Lindley (Marshall, IL); by his niece, Nancy Lynne Robinson (rural West Union, IL); by his two great-nephews, Ethan James Robinson (Charleston, IL) and Jeremiah Robinson (rural West Union, IL); as well as a number of extended family members and friends. Jack grew up in the West Union area and was a graduate of Hutsonville High School. He would go on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. We are humbled by the generosity of spirit that enabled him to take up the call of freedom for his fellow man. Back home, he worked on the family farm. Following the untimely passing of his father, a young Jack found work with the State of Illinois before becoming an operator/agent for the railroad. By the time he retired from CSX, he had seen much that the Midwest had to offer. Friends and family will remember Jack as a quiet, reserved man who valued his independence. However, he eventually recognized that he couldn't do it all on his own, which is why he, (alongside his sister, Virginia), was baptized in 2013 through the United Church of God in West Terre Haute. We find peace and hope that his faith has been made sight, and that he is living in the presence of his Savior. Due to the newly-increased public safety measures being enforced by the State of Illinois, services will be private. Jack will be laid to rest in the Bradbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the "West Union American Legion Post #1130". The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union is in charge of arrangements.
