John Marion Higgins

John Marion Higgins, 83, of rural Flat Rock, IL, died at 6:10 p.m. (E.S.T.) Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, IN. He was born April 15, 1925 in Crawford County, IL, the son of Amos Henry Higgins and Gracie Ellen Goff Higgins. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He worked in construction and was a fifty year member of Labor Local #1280. He was a member of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549 and the Robinson American Legion Post #69.He married Lura Wells November 7, 1950 and she preceded him in death March 28, 1992. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Burl Edward Higgins, Jessie James Higgins, Barney Higgins, Albert Higgins and Charles M. Higgins; his sister, Elizabeth Kessler; 1 half brother, George Thomas Johnson.He is survived by 2 sisters, Martha Bachelor, Robinson and Mandy Goff, Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7th at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Flat Rock with Rev. Elaine Lewis officiating. Burial will be in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the AmVets Post #33, American Legion Post #69, American Legion Post #132, and V. F. W. Post #4549. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 6th at the funeral home.
