John Eugene Lindsay, 58, of Vincennes, IN, died February 3, 2021, at Willow Manor in Vincennes, IN. He was born February 15, 1962, in Harvard, IL, the son of Billy & Betty (Miller) Lindsay, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister & brother-in-law, Lisa Lindsay-Young & Dr. Stephen Young. He is survived by his children, Matthew Lindsay (Branson, MO) and Mindy Lindsay (Vincennes, IN); by his sister & brother-in-law, Kathy & Keith Boyer (Vincennes, IN); by his brother, Bill Lindsay (Lawrenceville, IL); and by his nephews, Kehrt Etherton, Austin Boyer, and Colt Lindsay. John grew up in the Flat Rock area and attended Lawrenceville High School, where he excelled as an athlete. He was a vital part of the basketball team that went to state and was also a state champion in the high jump. Upon graduating in 1980, John furthered his education by earning an associate's degree in environmental technology from Lincoln Trail College. He put his newfound knowledge to good use when he became the Lawrenceville City Water & Sewer Department superintendent. Ever the public servant, he volunteered as a firefighter with the Lawrenceville Fire Department. Through the fire department, he underwent certification to become an EMT and rescue diver to aid his fellow man in times of emergency. John also gave his time to the Farm Bureau and the Ambraw Federal Credit Union, serving on the latter's board for many years. By all accounts, John was a gifted physical specimen, and he worked hard to better himself through karate, having made his way up to become a second-degree blackbelt! His free time also found him in the peace and quiet of the outdoors, having spent countless hours hunting and fishing. It was evident that family meant everything to John. His children were each the apple of his eye, and few things brought him more fulfillment than helping his dad on the farm when he was physically able. The last several years of John's life were spent fighting a body that was perpetually failing him. Yet, at no point during his fight with MS did he complain. Instead, he kept his sense of humor and stood his ground, fighting until the very end. May we all know the same tenacity of spirit that marked the life of John Lindsay. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13th at the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. It is requested that attendees wear face coverings while gathered. Memorials may be made to the "National Multiple Sclerosis Society", with envelopes available at the cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements.
