Joey Armstrong, 52, of Palestine, IL, passed away on December 5, 2022, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. He was born on September 6, 1970, in Oblong, IL, the son of George Armstrong & Stella (York) Armstrong. He grew up in the Palestine area but attended Robinson High School, where he graduated in 1989.
Anyone fortunate to know the man could speak to the fact that Joey was a kid at heart! He loved to ride bikes and had quite a collection of them, along with a vast array of toys and other collectibles. His youthful demeanor was on full display when he played basketball with his kids and grandkids. They will cherish memories of shared meals with their dad and grandpa, who could whip up some of the most mouth-watering burgers you'd ever get the chance to enjoy!
It should come as no surprise that the man was always the life of the party. People were just drawn to him, whether by way of his humor or his naturally empathetic heart. His caring concern for others was evident in a thousand different ways, but simply put, he was the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his own back. The love he so selflessly gave continues to live on in our hearts, and we will never forget him!
Joey was a member of the Lawrenceville Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his children, Kaycee Miller & Gabriel Dougan, Bridgette Armstrong & Tyler Songer, and Connor Armstrong & Bailey Helms; his grandchildren, Mymphis Dougan, Payton Childress, Trace Songer, and Easton Songer; his father, George Armstrong; his half-brother, Terry & Patty Patton; his step-mother, Vivian Friedrich, and her sons: Dave Cox, Kelly Cox, Leslie "Babe" Cox; by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including his dear friend, Todd Brown; and by his former wife and friend, Angel Armstrong-Keene.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Stella Armstrong; his brother, A.J. Armstrong; his half-sister, Cheryl Patton; as well as several aunts & uncles.
