Joan Marie Collier

October 4, 1937 — April 10, 2021

Joan Marie Collier, 83, of rural Robinson, IL, died on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in the early morning hours in her home after a night surrounded by her family. She was born October 4, 1937, in rural Palestine, the daughter of Oris & Ella Mae (Peterson) Knoblett, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Terry "TC" Collier on November 17, 1956, and he preceded her in death on March 16, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Colleen Knoblett. She is survived by her brother Jackie "Jack" Knoblett (Westville, IL) and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Hubert & Marlyn Collier (West Union, IL) and cherished nieces and nephews - Danny & Debbie Knoblett, Maria & David Pearman, Krista Collier, Taylor Knoblett & Shelby English. Joan was the proud mother of three children. Those surviving are sons & daughters-in-law, Eric & Laura Collier (Palestine, IL) and Brent & Becky Collier (Oblong, IL); by her daughter & son-in-law Holly & Reed Marks (Greenwood, IN); by her grandchildren & their spouses, Erika & Travis Guess, Nikolette & Dustin Staley, Jalyn Collier, Ian & Melissa Marks, and Luke & Hannah Marks; by her great-great-grandchildren, Gracie & Theo Guess, Lukis & Tuff Staley, Jude & Ruby Marks and Vita Bee Marks. Joan graduated from Hutsonville High School in 1955. She further went to Cosmetology school and received her certification. While raising their children, Joan worked out of her home salon, serving many across the county. She later purchased Hair Etc. and moved her business onto Downtown Main Street Palestine. She enjoyed seeing her regulars weekly and loved that she could make an individual feel like a new person when they walked out the door. She so enjoyed being able to be available to be with her two oldest granddaughters, Erika & Niki, when they were in elementary school on Mondays and take them to dance lessons on those days. Joan always accepted extra faces at the dinner table. With two growing boys and living in a farming family, she never knew who would be joining for a meal, but somehow there was always enough and more. She could feed a whole football team, snacks for the 4-H meeting, or the entire crew that it took to slaughter a hog. She was blessed with the patience for homework, sports practices & games, shift work, 4-H projects, serving as a taxi, being a farmer's wife, piano lessons, and so much more. She has been described by many of her caregivers as a "lovely lady." Joan enjoyed the camaraderie of her classmates of 1955. They are a group that has kept in contact through the years with class reunions and efforts for multi-year reunions to increase the number of memories. In recent years, she has so savored her friendships with her "Prairie friends" for talks on the phone, trips to Red Lobster or company while on doctor appointments. In the past year, she has rekindled friendships while at her stay at Brookstone. Joan was always willing to roast a turkey for the Eagles Thanksgiving dinner or provide a helping hand at a church dinner. She loved watching her beloved St. Louis Cardinals play ball along with any Men's Big-10 basketball team. She was a member of the Oak Grove Church for many years. She and Terry were known to literally wear out a deck of cards with their morning games of gin rummy. Memaw, Grandma & Mom will be missed by her family. Her legendary popcorn holds a place in all our hearts. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 16th at the funeral home, with burial following in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to "Oak Grove Cemetery", "Crawford County 4-H & Extension Foundation" or "Hospice Care of Good Samaritan Foundation", with envelopes available at the funeral home. *Please note that COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
