Jimmie M. "Brownie" Brown

Jimmie M. “Brownie” Brown, 84 of Robinson, IL, formerly of Terre Haute, IN, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a resident at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center in Robinson, where the caring staff took such excellent care of him in his final days. He was once employed as a linotype operator for the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, and later worked and retired from Amax Coal Co. where he worked with the test drillers.Jimmie was born April 9, 1924 in Teutopolis, IL, the son of Jim M. Brown and Eula Barnett Brown. He attended and graduated from Casey High School. He proudly enlisted in the United States Army where he was a Cpl. In the Anti-Tank Company, 120th Infantry Division. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes. He was a decorated WWII Veteran, with 5 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart awarded.He met and fell in love with, and married the love of his life, Wanda Ross, on April 9, 1949. (He NEVER forgot their anniversary.) He loved her dearly and took such loving care of her until his illness took over. We are proud of the “Poppy” that he was. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda of Robinson; his daughter, Tami Edwards, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kelly Brown, all of Terre Haute, IN; 4 grandchildren, CeCi Brown, Indianapolis, Austin Edwards, Washington state, Chelsey Brown and Zachary Edwardson, Terre Haute, IN; and his great grandson, Camdyn Brown, Terre Haute, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Irene Murphy, Ft. Wayne, IN.In addition to being a veteran, he was a member of the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250, the Zorah Shrine of Terre Haute, the Crawford County Shrine, Kerman Grotto of Terre Haute, the Crawford County Farm Bureau, the TPA, and a 49 year member of the Valley of Terre Haute Scottish Rite.Per his request, there will be no services. Donations may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, 700 Broadway Ave. East, Mattoon, IL 61938. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements
