Jerry Ray Brashear

September 21, 1967 — May 10, 2024

Jerry Ray Brashear, 56, of rural Heathsville, IL, passed away and was found at home on May 10, 2024. Born on September 21, 1967, in Sullivan, IN, Jerry's life was a testament to the joy of embracing each day with enthusiasm and a sense of adventure. He grew up in the Palestine/Heathsville areas and was a proud 1985 graduate of Palestine High School. His early career led him to work at Rural King, but it was his time at Briggs Pottery that he cherished most. Despite the intense heat of the pottery, Jerry thrived in the environment and was deeply saddened by its closure in December of 1999. The tail-end of his career found him at Hershey, working in the Milk Dud, Whopper, and Reese production departments.

He was a man who never met a stranger, always ready to strike up a conversation and connect with anyone and everyone. His charisma was such that he could even convince a stranger that they had met before. This gift of gab was part of Jerry's charm and a trait that endeared him to many. He was also well-known for his love of Chinese food, with Dragon 2000 in Vincennes being his go-to spot for a weekly indulgence. A true night owl, Jerry found joy in midnight runs to Denny's and reveling in the thrill of the casino (whether he gambled or not).

Jerry's passion for life extended to his love of events and the great outdoors. Alongside his son, Jerry Raymond, the duo would travel all over the region to attend rodeos, concerts, truck pulls, and other big events. Their shared adventures on dirt bikes, riding across the countryside from Heathsville to Flat Rock to Birds, forged an unbreakable bond between father and son. He would often tell him: "Buddies to the end and evermore, amen!" - a phrase that beautifully encapsulated their relationship.

To know Jerry Ray Brashear was to know a man who truly lived. His friendly demeanor and adventurous spirit made him a memorable presence in the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His story is one of a life embraced with open arms and a heart that welcomed the world. He will be deeply missed, but the echoes of his voice and the warmth of his smile will remain with us forever.

Jerry's legacy will live on through his cherished family: his son, Jerry Raymond Brashear, and his wife, Scarlett; his grandchildren, Ryleigh and Bentley; and his brother, Gary Brashear. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Raymond & Marjorie (Richards) Brashear; his uncle, Kenny Brashear; and his sister-in-law, Cindy Brashear.

Jerry will be cremated without a public service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of these arrangements.
