Jerry Keith Plummer

January 8, 1940 — April 22, 2020

Jerry Keith Plummer, 80, of Oblong, IL, died April 22, 2020, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. He was born January 8, 1940, in rural Stoy, IL, the son of Ralph Plummer & Juanita Ruth (Cravens) Plummer, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Plummer, as well as his brother David in infancy. He married Nancy Perry on August 21, 1992, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Bryan & Marcia Plummer (Jackson, MS); by his daughter, Christy & John Nuckolls (Normal, IL); by his step-daughter, Julie Alzate (Newton, IL); by his step-son & daughter-in-law, Larry Allen Bedwell, Jr & Jennifer Bedwell (Newton, IL); by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by his siblings & their spouses, Charlene & Ron Riippi (DeKalb, IL), Dewayne “Boomer” & Barbara Plummer (Robinson, IL), Randy Plummer & significant other, Jane Lewis (Oblong, IL); by his aunt, Jeanne Jenkins (Claremont, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Jerry was, by all accounts, a good ol' country boy. He loved everything about Western culture--the clothes, the music, you name it! His lifestyle could be traced back to his youth. Having grown up on the farm alongside his father, he learned at an early age what it looked like to work, and work hard. It was at this point in his life that his love of horses began to become apparent. Much of his life was spent breeding, training, riding, and racing quarter horses, and this was a great source of joy for him for many years. If he wasn't tending to his four-legged companions, chances were, he was tending to his yard. Anyone who drove past his property could attest--he kept the place looking immaculate! Later years found Jerry and Nancy traveling, especially to country music hotspots--Gatlinburg, Little Nashville, and Branson were just a few of the destinations they enjoyed together. Though vacationing was certainly enjoyable, nothing brought him more life than simply spending time with his family. Though they spread out far and wide over the years, one thing was certain--he always kept them close to his heart. Yes, it's true that Jerry lived a life marked with simplicity, but it was also marked with a tenacity of spirit that lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. In light of the CDC's recommendation and the State of Illinois' mandate to limit public gatherings to no more than ten people, there will be no public service. However, Jerry's family would like to invite you to take part by viewing the livestream of his service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25th.
