Janie Lynn Brush, 74, of Auburn, IL, formerly of West York, IL, passed away on June 29, 2022, at Auburn Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. She was born May 16, 1948, in Linton, IN, the daughter of Samuel Lynn & Margaret (LeForge) Lynn, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Larry Brush on April 17, 2004, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sisters & brothers-in-law, Sybil & Robert Newlin and Ann & Harry Smith, and by her brother-in-law, Gene Zellers.
She is survived by her sister, Martha Zellers; by her special friend, Larry Monroe; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews, including Samantha Smith, who selflessly cared for her in the twilight of her life.
Janie grew up in West York and was a 1966 graduate of Hutsonville High School. Though she worked a few factory jobs, she eventually found her calling as an activities director for area nursing homes. She totally immersed herself in finding ways to engage with and bring joy to her residents. They were enamored with the light that seemed to shine within her; it was as bright as her singing voice was strong. She lent this beautiful gift to a number of weddings, revivals, and church services, including those held at West York Bible Church, where she attended for a number of years. No matter where she went or what she was doing, her outgoing nature was undeniable, as this dear soul didn't know a stranger!
Though she was a people person, those in her family were her favorite people in the world! They will remember with fondness her love of cats and of Christmas and the various homemade trinkets she gave them to treasure each year. Her personality brought color and life to the world around her, and for that, we are forever thankful.
It was her wish to be cremated and a private graveside service will be held at the Bradbury Cemetery, rural West York. The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union is in charge of arrangements.
