Janet Marie Pankonien

Janet Marie Pankonien, 66, of Palestine, IL, died at 2:20 p.m. (EST) on November 11, 2019, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born on March 7, 1953, in Palestine, the daughter of Norris Bailey & Caroline Underwood (Crum) Bailey, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Kathryn Bailey. She married Gary Pankonien on October 6, 1979, and he survives. She is also survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Randy & Kim Bailey (Palestine, IL) and Dustin & Sheila Pankonien (Murrieta, CA); by her grandchildren, Christina Provines and Seth Bailey; by her great-grandson, Chase Provines; by her sister & brother-in-law, Loretta & Bill Mikeworth (Robinson, IL); by her brothers & sisters-in-law, Leon & Sandra Bailey (rural Robinson, IL), Leonard Bailey (Seminole, OK), Don & Jean Bailey (rural Palestine, IL), and James & Sherri Bailey (Robinson, IL); several nieces and nephews; as well as her special friend until the end, Lloyd Hall. Janet grew up in Palestine and was a 1971 graduate of PHS. She worked for a number of area businesses over the years, including Crawford Electronics, GSI, Green Construction, Heating, and Cooling before retiring from Addus Healthcare, where poor health forced her into retirement just a few years ago. Away from work, she was well-known in the local karaoke circuit, and could often be found belting renditions of her favorite country songs. She also spent quite a bit of time riding motorcycles with her friends, often riding to Monical's, where she spent countless hours as a regular over the years. More than anything, however, she simply enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Janet will be remembered as an ornery, but loving soul who cared deeply for those fortunate enough to know her. They will never forget the boldness and strength she displayed day-in and day-out, but especially as she neared the end of her wonderful life. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday with Pastor Scott Mendenhall officiating the service. Cremation will follow, with burial at a later date in the Palestine Cemetery. In honor of her love of animals, memorial contributions may be made to the "Crawford County Humane Society", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
