Jane E. Hornbeak-Jenkins

April 2, 1958 — December 11, 2021

Jane E. Hornbeak-Jenkins, 63, of Shelburn, IN, died December 11, 2021, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 2, 1958, in East Chicago, IN, the daughter of Richard A. & Ailean E. (Vanderver) Holley. She grew up in Calumet City, IL, and worked in many capacities over the course of her life. Specifically, she was a longtime bartender and also worked for the Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights for 22 years before poor health forced her into an early retirement. Much of her retirement years found Jane giving her time as a volunteer for many organizations, including the V.F.W., American Legion, AmVets, and Eagles Auxiliaries. Recently, she was active in the Shelburn Fire & Rescue Auxiliary as well. Time at home often found her sewing or in the kitchen, crafting delicious meals big enough to feed an army! Her family and friends were the beneficiaries of her homemade cooking and will long crave her specialty dishes like corn & sausage and chicken & dumplings. They will also remember her caring concern for people and animals alike. It could be said that Jane wasn't afraid to take in the strays, those down and out. She was a loving matriarch, not only to her family but also to anyone blessed to know her. Her selfless generosity lives on in our hearts, and we will never forget her. She is survived by her husband, George Jenkins (Shelburn, IN); by her daughters, Lisa Miller (Shelburn, IN) and Tanya & Albert Tucker (Hammond, IN); by her step-children, Tom & Julie Scott (Farmersburg, IN) and Teresa Jenkins & Tim Harriott (Mechanicsburg, OH); by her longtime friend, William Hornbeak; by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; as well as her neighbors, William Harvey & Diana Cannito and their children, Victoria Harvey and Esse Harvey (all of Shelburn, IN). She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard & Ailean Holley; by her sisters, Lillie Mae Holley, Annie Bennett, and Betty Davis Jerome; and by her brothers, Richard Holley, Jr. and Arlon Holley. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 13th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14th, at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to her family, with checks made payable to "George Jenkins". Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
