James W. Higgins

James W. Higgins, 89 of Palestine, IL, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Center in Robinson. He was born November 11, 1921 in Morea, the son of Percy Higgins and Amy Allison Higgins. He retired from Marathon Oil Co. in the Warehouse Division and was a member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188.Jim married Harriett Houpt on September 26, 1948, and she survives. He is also survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Bob Walker, rural Palestine and Amy and Doug McFarland, Brownsburg, IN; 6 grandchildren, Robb Walker, rural Palestine, Dr. Kate Walker, Plainfield, IL, Michael Walker, rural Palestine, Cameron McFarland, Isabel McFarland, and Paige McFarland all of Brownsburg, IN.He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Percy Jr., Fred, and Harold €œChamp€ Higgins; and 2 sisters, Lavene Hayes and Charlene Fox.Private graveside services will be held at the Oak Grove Cemetery on Friday, July 1st. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Association or to the Palestine Public Library. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
