James Spencer Woodworth, Jr., 81, of Robinson, died March 2, 2007 at Crawford Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, Robinson. He was born December 13, 1925 in Robinson, the son of J. Spencer and Elizabeth (Allison) Woodworth. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Indiana University in 1948 and entered into business with his father at the Woodworth Insurance Agency and was later joined by his son, Jay in 1975. He served as the Robinson BPO Elks #1188 secretary and Exalted Ruler in 1954 and 1955. He was a 61 year member of the American Legion, a past President of the Robinson Jaycees, a member of the Robinson Kiwanis and the Robinson First Presbyterian Church. Jim was also a member and past President of the Crawford County Independent Insurance Agents Association, and was the former President of the State of Illinois Independent Insurance Association in 1961 and 1962. He was a director of the First then Second National Bank, Robinson which was originally started by James Leander Woodworth and Abner Palmer Woodworth as the Woodworth Brothers Bank. The Woodworths were the only family to have 3 members serve as President of the Robinson Chamber of Commerce, Spencer, Jim and Ken.Jim married Mary Marbry on August 25, 1946, and she survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Lucinda Lee Woodworth, Olney, IL; his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Marbry and Carolyn Woodworth, of Houston, TX, currently working in Malabo Equatorial Guinea, South Africa with Marathon Oil; 5 grandchildren, J.S. “Jace” Woodworth, IV, Robinson, Kristin Rae Avery, Oblong, Elizabeth (Brian) Keach, Flora, Kelly Jo (Joey) Spitznagel, Fort Wayne, IN; Kyle Marbry Woodworth, Houston; 3 great grandchildren, Clayton James Avery, Lainie Louise Keach and Briley Rose Keach.He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, J. S. “Jay” Woodworth, III.Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7th at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. A memorial service will follow at 8 p.m. conducted by the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188 and by Rev. Tom Akers. Family graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 8th at the Robinson New Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the “Elks Charitable Organization” or to the Crawford County Rescue Squad, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
