James Pat Burnett, 68, of Flat Rock, IL, passed away on November 29, 2022. He was born on February 18, 1954, in Iraan, TX, the son of Floyd Errol Burnett & Billie Jean (Hagan) Burnett. He grew up in the Martinsville, IL, area and was a 1972 graduate of Martinsville High School. He would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1976-1979. We are thankful for the selflessness of spirit that enabled this dear man to take up his country's call for the sake of liberty and justice for all.
Back home, he found employment with Union Carbide for a time but eventually made his way to the Robinson Correctional Center, where he worked from 1999 until retiring in 2016. His co-workers (and really, anyone else who knew him) could speak to his love of the St. Louis Cardinals. Over the years, Pat made many treks to Busch Stadium to watch the Redbirds play, and he was even able to take in the unique experience of watching them win the 2011 World Series in person. These outings weren't complete without a delicious meal at a restaurant like Olive Garden or Red Lobster (or anywhere else that served crab!)
It was evident that Pat Burnett was a people person. He refused to let you be a stranger and loved nothing more than spending time with others. This especially held true when it came to his family, as he was a devoted husband, caring stepdad, proud grandfather, and a doting great-grandfather. However, the most important title he held was that of "Christian". We hold fast to our hope that, by the grace of God, Pat's 68 years with us were but the beginning in light of eternal life.
On July 5, 1986, he married Diane Hodson, and she survives. He is also survived by his stepchildren & their spouses, Stoney & Nichole Dunlap, Brodi & Tony Ramsey, and Codey Dunlap; by his 11 grandkids and 4 great-grandkids; by his brothers & sisters-in-law, William E. & Cheri Burnett and Scott R. & Cyndy Burnett; by his sister & brother-in-law, Nancy A. Burnett & Patrick Wall; as well as several nieces and nephews.
