James M. Hill, owner of Jim Hill Realtors, Robinson, died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 12:08 p.m. at the Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson. He was born September 8, 1929 in Robinson, the son of Marlin Bryan Hill and Fanchion Lingafelter Hill. He was installed in 1986 as district 8 vice president of the 24,000 member Illinois Association of Realtors. He was a member of the state association’s board of directors, and had previously served on the association’s committees that deal with professional standards, political involvement and legislative matters.He served as president of the Egyptian Board of Realtors in 1983, and was selected as the Board’s Realtor of the Year in 1984. He also served as president of the East Central Illinois Board of Realtors in 1993 and received the East Central Illinois Realtor of the Year award in 1994. He chaired many committees of the Board, and served as trustee of the Kathryn Duncan Scholarship Fund. He was a member of the Farm and Land Institute of the National Association of Realtors. He received a degree in business from Summers College of Commerce and also attended Indiana State University and Lincoln Trail College. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering to study planning and zoning. Jim was chairman of the Robinson Planning Commission for 31 years. During that time, he also served as the zoning administrator for Robinson, filling in for various vacancies. He was active in the First Christian Church, Robinson, a past president of the Robinson Kiwanis Club, a life time member of the Robinson Elks #1188, a 29 year member of the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250, a 36 year member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Robinson Chamber of Commerce. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Robinson Flying Club. He had also been a leader of peewee, minor and little league baseball teams.Jim married Kimberly Sue (Kim) Hill on December 16, 1978, and she survives. He is also survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-laws, Amy and Steve Herrington, Deer Park, TX, Elesa and Mark Wright, Apple Valley, CA, and Angie Rowan, Plainfield, IN; his son, Hank Hill, Huntington Beach, CA; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his sister, Mary Ann Stitt, Robinson; 3 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 5th at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson, with Rev. Rob Rixman and Rev. Tom Akers officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the Robinson New Cemetery by the combined units of Amvets Post #33, American Legion Post #69 and V.F.W. Post #4549. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
