James Lee Watson, 70, of rural Oblong died September 4, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. He was born May 29, 1940 in Robinson, the son of Roger Watson and Hazel McCormick Watson. He was a pipefitter and welder for many years, and was a 30 year member of Local #157. The €œMayor of Old York€ was also a member of the York Masonic Lodge, the Palestine Eagles, AmVets, and the Oak Glen Golf Course.He is survived by his long-time companion, Beverly Goff, Oblong; three daughters Darida Watson, Palestine, Donda Oliver, Rosehill, IL, and Stacey and Mark Newlin, Palestine; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Callaway, Robinson; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Gene Watson, Jack Watson, Bill Watson, and Roger (Toot) Watson.Funeral services will be held Friday, September 10, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with Gary Fasig conducting the service. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service to follow at 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Lincolnland Hospice, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
