James "Jimmy" Brown, 36, of Flat Rock, IL, passed away on January 9, 2023, following a brief but valiant fight with cancer. He was born on October 23, 1986, in Robinson, IL, the son of Robert & Sherri Brown. He grew up in the rural Flat Rock area, where he would develop a lifelong passion for animals. He held a particular fondness for pigs and horses, the latter of which he enjoyed riding throughout his adolescence. The pond out in front of the Brown home afforded a young Jimmy innumerable hours with a rod and reel in his hand. In fact, much of his 36 years were spent outdoors. Though he briefly worked for Bradford Supply after graduating from Robinson High School in 2006, most of his career found him out in God's creation, laboring in the oil fields. Anyone who knew Jimmy could speak to his incredible work ethic, and this includes his colleagues at ZF TRW in Marshall, IL, where he was employed at the time of his passing.
Though he often kept his nose to the grindstone, he knew how to blow off steam now and again. Many a Friday and Saturday evening found him playing Texas Hold 'Em with his oilfield buddies. He also cherished time spent with his family, who will long remember Jimmy as a loving, caring guy who would do anything to help when he could.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his partner, Kelly Slussar-Brown; his step-kids, Cody, Alex, and Joie; his grandson, Jayce; his dad & step-mom, Robert "Bob" Brown & Becky Newlin; his mother & step-dad, Sherri & Ronald Bone; his grandma, Barbara Brown; his siblings & their spouses, Andy & Dawn Brown, Charles Brown, Stephanie & Mike Miller, and Bobbie Lynn Brown; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandpa, James Brown; his maternal grandparents, Kenneth Osborn & Marylan Osborn Flenner; his nephew, Jamie Brown; as well as many aunts, uncles, and great-grandparents.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21st, at the Tohill Cemetery, rural Flat Rock, with Pastor Eric Hankins officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of these arrangements.
Following the graveside, friends and family are invited to continue remembering and celebrating Jimmy's life at South Union Church.
In honor of his love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the "Crawford County Humane Society" and envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
