James A. "Jim" LaVigne, 50, of West York, IL, died on January 3, 2022, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He was born on March 17, 1971, in Des Moines, IA, the son of Warren & Janice (Adams) LaVigne-Evans. Though he lived in TX for a short time, he grew up in the Hutsonville area and was a 1990 graduate of Hutsonville High School. He would eventually continue his education at Lincoln Trail College, where he studied culinary arts. In fact, anyone who knew Jim could attest to his love of food! It should come as no surprise, then, that Jim worked for a number of local restaurants before finding work as a driver for Rides Mass Transit. In this capacity, he built many relationships with his regulars, who could all speak to the fact that the man always ran 15 minutes behind! Away from work, he loved to be outdoors, be that tent camping or hunting mushrooms. The latter provided him a quiet satisfaction that he enjoyed year after year. He also loved crafting with his beloved Kayla, who will forever cherish trips to Hobby Lobby with her dad to pick up supplies. It could be said that there was nothing the man wouldn't do for his daughter. When most men hunkered down to watch the Super Bowl, he'd be at the Teeny Tiny Teaparty. When a young Kayla wanted to win backstage passes for a Britney Spears concert, he dolled himself up to dress as the pop star, earning a spot in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star in the process! He would regularly shower her with gifts (after all, the girl had more Barbies than anyone in the county), but the greatest gift he ever gave her was his time. It was evident that Jim understood that love isn't just a word; it's an action. We are thankful that love is this dear man's legacy and will cherish it for as long as we live. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Kayla & Nick Pfeifer (Marshall, IL); by his parents, Warren & Janice Evans (West York, IL); by his siblings, Laura & Steve Probst, Kathy & Gary Nidey, Ted & Tara LaVigne, Billy & Callie Evans, and Becky Finley; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill & Louise Adams. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. A celebration of his life will immediately follow and be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. During the service, family and friends will have the opportunity to share memories of this dear man's life. Memorials may be made to Jim's memorial fund, with checks made payable to "Goodwine Funeral Homes".
