Raymond, better known as “Jack” Nash was born July 31, 1922 in Crawford County, IL. He was the son of Bernice Magill and Samuel Raymond Nash. He died at 5:05 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson. Due to the nature of his father’s employment, the family moved frequently and he attended schools in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee before moving to rural Crawford County where he attended and was graduated from Flat Rock High School.In 1942 Jack enlisted in the Army Air Force and served as a member of a bomber crew in the European Theater. After discharge from the service, he was with the Illinois State Police and a Crawford County Deputy Sheriff.In 1951 he began employment with Marathon Oil Company. After 30 years with the company, he retired as a supervisor in the Lube Oil Department. He and his wife spent their retirement years in the rural Hutsonville area.He was a member of the Robinson Elks, American Legion Post #69, V. F. W. Post #4549, and AmVets Post #33.Jack married Jean King on November 22, 1947 and she survives. He is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Barbara Nash, rural Hutsonville; 2 grandchildren, Alisha Nash, Houston, TX and Shane Nash, Petersburg, IN.Preceded him in death were his parents; and his sister and brother-in-law, Lola Ruth and Fred Hofbauer; and his niece, Jeanne Beason.Jack requested he be cremated. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 4th at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, rural Palestine. Military graveside services will be conducted by the V. W. F. Post #4549, American Legion Post #69, American Legion Post #132, and AmVets Post #33. The Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the V. F. W. Post #4549 Transportation Fund.
