Jack Edward Grimes, Jr.

Jack Edward Grimes, Jr., 57, of Palestine, IL died at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 14, 1953 in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Jack E. Grimes, Sr. and Pauline Slavens Grimes. He served in the U. S. Navy. He was employed at the Robinson Correctional Center and as a Palestine Police Officer. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Palestine. He served as a volunteer fireman for LaMotte Fire Department and took great pride in his work with the Toys of Needy Children Program. Jack was also a member of the Lion€™s Club for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served his community with his whole heart.Jack is survived by his soul mate and wife of 37 years, Starr Dugan Grimes; his 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Mandi and Jason McKay, Jeffersonville, IN, and Lindi and Jason Bonesteel, Newburgh, IN; 2 granddaughters, Swayzie Bonesteel and Allison McKay; 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Paula Grimes, Knox, IN, Paul Grimes, Palestine, Bryon Steadman of OK; 5 sisters, Alice Cheesman, Hutsonville, Sherry Reynolds, Terre Haute, IN, Ella and Frank Harkrader, Sumner, Julia and Les Tingley, Hutsonville, and Connie-Jo Schilling, Springville, AL; and many nieces and nephews. He cherished his relationship with his brothers Paul and Mike. Swayzie was Papaw€™s €œSpecial Angel.€Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 10th at Goodwine funeral home, Palestine IL. A graveside service will be held at Palestine New Cemetery on Saturday, September 11 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Aryn Meritt officiating.
