Jack Dwayne Harris, 59, of Oblong, IL, died on January 14, 2019. He was born June 12, 1959 in Robinson, the son of Jack Edward Harris & Patricia Ann (Bayne) Harris. He grew up in Palestine and Flat Rock and attended school in Robinson before briefly serving in the U.S. Army, from whom he received a medical discharge. Jack’s life, by all accounts, was dedicated to the open road. He was a trucker, through-and-through, and was proud to have spent over 30 years doing what he loved. At home, he could often be found watching NASCAR or a football game and was an avid Denver Broncos fan. More than anything, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and many friends, who will remember Jack as a good-hearted man who would give you the shirt off his back. He is survived by his daughters & his son-in-law, Celeste & Jason Jackson, Laura Presson, and Shanna Love; by his grandchildren, Keisha Clay, Cameron Baud, Michelle Rogers, Candace Harris, Lane Jackson, and Antonio Escobedo; by his mother, Pat Harris; by his brother, Chuck Harris; by his nieces, Brandi Duggins and Charleigh Harris; by his great-nephews, Lincoln Duggins and Carter Duggins; and by his former wives, Debbie Smith and Valeria Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Edward Harris. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11th at the Palestine Cemetery, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, with envelopes available at the cemetery.
