Ivo Gene "Sterling" Hayden

Ivo Gene “Sterling” Hayden, 83 of rural Robinson, IL, died at his home October 8, 2009. He was born June 21, 1926 in Robinson Township, the son of Ivo Herman Hayden and Leota Fay Lloyd Hayden. He had retired from Marathon Refinery in 1986 as Foreman of the Crude Unit after 37 years of service. He served in the U. S. Army in the Rineland in Germany during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549. He was also a member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188 and a Charter and Lifetime member of the Oak Glen Golf Course.He married Virginia “Ginny” Mae Starwalt April 16, 1949 and she preceded him in death on January 17, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Virginia Wells, Dorothy Webb, and Mary Helms; and by his brother, Lawrence Hayden. Survivors include his 2 sons and daughter-in-law, William Gene “Bill” and Donna Hayden, Gunthrie, OK and Jeffrey Alan Hayden, Robinson; his 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Roxanna and David Sirek, Blain, MN, and Cynthia and Roscoe Paul Kincaid, Robinson; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Rhea Hayden, Robinson, Lonnie David and Diane Hayden, Mishawaka, IN; his sister-in-law, Grace Hayden. Dover, DE; and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Graveside services will be Monday, October 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Rev. John Brand is in charge of services. Memorials may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation with envelopes at the Funeral Home.
