Ivan Hoalt

Ivan Hoalt, 94, of Flat Rock, IL, died on September 11, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born May 14, 1928, in Vincennes, IN, the son of Louis Spencer Hoalt & Dora (Cardinal) Hoalt, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Robbie "Jo" Franklin on June 25, 1949, and spent exactly 72 years of loving companionship before her passing on June 25, 2021. He is also preceded in death by his son, Steven Hoalt; by his sisters, Tricie Hoalt, Nancy Hoalt, Dovie Dunham, Dorothy Lovellette, Oma Schroeder, and Marjorie Irvin; by his brothers, Edgar Hoalt, Dallas Hoalt, Louis Amos Hoalt, Cecil Hoalt, Virgil Hoalt, Curtis Hoalt and Harvey Hoalt.

He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Jon & Jackie Hoalt; by his grandchildren & their families, Johnna & Jacob Jones and their son, Ethan Michael Jones, and Jake & Danielle Hoalt and their son, Hilton Ivan Hoalt; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ivan grew up in a large family in Vincennes, IN. Hard work was in his blood. At a young age, he worked in the tomato fields. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Returning from the military Ivan would work at the paper plant in Vincennes, IN, before getting a construction job with Pittsburg Plate Glass, installing glass windows. In 1963 Ivan and Robbie "Jo" bought a farm in Flat Rock, IL. Ivan spent countless hours on the farm. He took great pride in watching his farm grow through each generation.

After the Navy, Ivan earned his pilot's license and spent several years flying. He commonly took short flights for breakfast or lunch. Even though construction and farming allowed him little free time, when he got the chance, he enjoyed playing cards with his family. During family reunions, Ivan enjoyed participating in horseshoe tournaments and picking on his nephews during a game of croquet.

Ivan was a long-term member of the Flat Rock United Methodist Church.

A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (CST) on Friday, September 16th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, IL. Funeral services will immediately follow and will be held at 12:00 p.m. (CST) on Friday, with Pastor Nathan Jeffries officiating. Cremation will follow, and burial will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the "Flat Rock United Methodist Church," with envelopes available at the funeral home.
