Irene Miller Dunn, 88, of Robinson, IL, died at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at her residence. She was born May 18, 1919 in the Heathsville vicinity, rural Palestine, IL, the daughter of Perry W. and Lillis Miller. She graduated from Robinson High School in 1936. Upon graduation she was employed at the F. W. Woolworth and later accepted the position of secretary/bookkeeper and loan officer with Limerick Finance Corp. In 1943 she took a leave of absence to join her husband while he was stationed in Nevada going through training with his bomber crew for duty in the South Pacific during WWII. During that time she worked for the Bank of America in Las Vegas as secretary to the President. Upon her husband’s departure for overseas combat duty, she returned to Robinson and resumed her job at the Limerick Finance. In 1951 she resigned from Limerick Finance and moved to Denver Co, when her husband was called back to active duty at the Air Base in Denver. She enrolled in the Denver Institute of tech to become a legal steno. Her husband was then transferred to Loring Air Base, Maine. She tested through an extensive exam at Loring and became a civil service employee of the Government and attended several technical schools, including Crypto/Top Secret and earned the clearance. She continued attending technical schools, seminars, Top Secret conferences throughout her 20 years to tenure, updating her skills as Executive/Administrative Secretary to the Wing Commanding Generals of the Air Force installations to which her husband was assigned, including 3 years at Ramsey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico. Her last employment with the Government was Executive/Administrative Secretary to the 8th Air Force Surgeon General. Her husband retired after the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Crisis in December 1968 at Westover Air Force Base, MA. Irene retired from the Government January 1, 1969. She and her husband returned to Robinson and she was employed as the Secretary to the first President of Lincoln Trail College. She retired from that position July 19, 1982. She was a member of the Quail Creek Country Club and Quail Creek CC Bridge Clubs; Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Lodge #1188, V. F. W. Post #4549 Auxiliary, American Legion Post #69 Auxiliary, Women of the Moose Chapter #278, the Crawford County Humane Society, and a life member of the Crawford County Historical Society. She was a Christian and favored the First United Methodist Church and the Otterbein United Methodist Church.She married Roscoe B. 'Rocky' Dunn on June 4, 1937 and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Emery Menk Miller and Emerson 'Buck' Miller; her sister, Maxine 'Pepper' Pasek; a special niece, Bobbi-Jo Miller Brenton; a nephew, Douglas C. Miller; a great niece, Diana Brenton Neer; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lois Miller. She is survived by her 3 nieces, Karin Miller and Debbie Campbell, both of McLeansboro, IL, and Sharon Biggs, Palestine; her 2 nephews, Richard L. Miller, Robinson, and Craig E. Miller, McLeansboro, IL; and several great and great-great nieces and great-great nephews each of whom she loved dearly; and her sister-in-law, Norma F. Creswell Miller, Robinson.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson with Tory Potts officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday preceding the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the established R. B. 'Rocky' Dunn Memorial Fund, % Crawford County Historical Society/Museum, Robinson with envelopes available at the funeral home.
