Ida Marie Chalstrom Douglas

Ida Marie Chalstrom Douglas exited this life peacefully on September 2, 2021 in Robinson, Illinois. She was born February 27, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Clare E. and Beulah W. Chalstrom. Her formative years were spent in Joliet, Illinois. She graduated from Joliet Township High School and from Joliet Junior College where she was very involved in dance and theatre, a love and discipline of which she carried throughout her life. She continued her education with a Bachelor of Science in History and English, a Master of Science in Criminology, and concluded her formal education with a Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Affairs. She was inducted into the international interdisciplinary honor society of Phi Delta Theta at the graduate level as well as Sigma Sigma Sigma social sorority at the undergraduate level. She was a teacher, a researcher and a published writer. In 1960, she married Robert Lee Douglas Esq.. Their primary residence was in Robinson, Illinois. They traveled extensively and were active in the pure-bred cattle business and funded several scholarships at Joliet Junior College and the University of Illinois, as well as being members of the Presidents Council and the Centurion Council at the University of Illinois. Marie participated in her husband's law practice as a consultant for many years. Her husband pre-deceased her in 2014. Her brother, John E. Chalstrom II, also pre-deceased her. Robert and Marie had a son, Clinton Arnold Douglas II. She is also survived by a niece, Katherine Chalstrom Stewart, of Atlanta, Georgia, and a nephew, John E. Chalstrom III of North Pole, Alaska, as well as several great-nieces and nephews. Marie was a member of Childerguild in Joliet and of the Ottawa Street Methodist Church. In Robinson, she was a long-time member of Sorosis Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her cremated remains will be privately buried.
