Herbert W. Hess, 56 of rural Palestine, IL, died at 8:46 p.m. (e.s.t.) Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Indiana Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. He was born August 20, 1953 in Palestine, the son of Howard Wayne Hess and Reba Wiman Hess.Herb was an active member and officer in the Crawford County Collectibles Car Club, a member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188, a member and co-founder of the Palestine Alumni Band, which in turn raised money for the Palestine School music department. He was a past member of the Palestine Chamber of Commerce, was a past chairman of the Palestine Labor Day Parade and assisted with the Chuck Wagon Breakfast during the Labor Day Celebration. He was a past member of the Illinois Central Railroad Historical Society, and a past member of the P. R. O. P. S. Radio Control Club. He graduated from Palestine High School in the Class of 1971 and received an Associates Degree from Lincoln Trail College in Culinary Arts. He worked for Lycan€™s John Deere Implement Co. as the Parts Manager and at Tempco Products for 25 years as their Shipping Foreman.He married Barbara White on October 14, 1978 and she survives. He is also survived by his mother, Reba Hess, Palestine; his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Carla Hess, Locust Grove GA, his mother-in-law, Virginia White, Palestine; 2 sisters-in-law their husbands, Karen and Duane Murray, Palestine, Rita and Clell Fry, Stoy; 3 brothers-in-law and their spouses, Chris and Lori White, Robinson, Ken White, Noblesville, IN, Matt and Glenda White, Boling Springs, SC; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hess and his father-in-law, Mac White.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13th, and preceding the service on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the €œHerbert Hess Memorial Fund€ with the proceeds to be given to €œEvery Child Is Noteworthy€ to buy musical instruments for the Palestine School District Music Department.
