Herbert Lawrence Wilkinson

April 22, 1928 — November 27, 2021

Herbert Lawrence Wilkinson passed away quietly on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at a hospice care facility in Miami, FL. Herb was born April 22, 1928, in Lamotte Township, south of present-day Trimble, IL, the son of Lola Laverne Russell and Paul "S" Wilkinson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, completing one tour in Germany. Upon returning home, he married Hilah May Willard on November 15, 1952. Together, they had two sons, Robert L. Wilkinson and David W. Wilkinson.

Herb was very active in the veteran community. He was a Past Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (1958 -1959) and served in various other capacities in that organization for many years until shortly before his death. He lived much of his productive life in Robinson, where he was an active part of the local business community. He ran many successful businesses and enjoyed working with and serving the people of Crawford County.

Herb was preceded in death by his wife, Hilah, and is survived by his two sons and their spouses: Robert L. (Miriam) Wilkinson of Miami, FL, and David W. (Cherie) Wilkinson of Payson, UT; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother and two sisters; Nancy (Harold) Smeder of Glendale, CA, Clark (Georgia) Wilkinson of Camargo, IL, and Jane (Brian) Evans of Robinson, IL.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Newlin Cemetery, rural Trimble, IL. Military rites will be accorded by the combined units of the U.S. Army, the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
