Harrison Daniel Sipes

June 23, 1952 — June 25, 2023

Harrison Daniel "Dan" Sipes, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in rural Flat Rock, IL, on June 25, 2023, just two days after his 71st birthday. Born in Caraway, AR, on June 23, 1952, Dan leaves behind a wealth of memories, stories, and laughter for everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Vickie (Shriver), whom he married on June 17, 1989. He is also remembered by his children, Phillip & wife Ladonna Sipes and Crissy Sipes; his former son-in-law, Duane Grinderslev; his stepchildren & their spouses, Robert & Andrea Nicholson and Misty & Sam Ballard; his grandchildren, Amber, Cody, Holden, and Paige; his step-grandchildren, Jessica, Austin, William, and Ethan; and several great-grandchildren. Dan's memory will also be cherished by his siblings, Lenita Knudsen, Regina Wilkey, Karen Meredith, and Jeff Sipes, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene & Bobbie Sipes, and his younger brother, Mike.

Throughout his life, Dan worked as a truck driver, a career that spanned decades and took him all across the United States. His time on the road was a treasure trove of stories, and he loved recounting these adventures to his spellbound audiences. Though Dan wasn't a fan of driving along the crowded and bustling east coast, that didn't dull his enthusiasm for exploring America.

When he wasn't on the road, Dan relished spending time with his family and pursuing a number of hobbies. A passionate fisherman, he often had a fish-or a Natural Light, or a grandkid-within arm's reach. The proud owner of a '66 Chevy, Dan spent innumerable hours under the hood of his car while music by Faron Young filled his garage. This informal sanctum became the family gathering spot, where generations swapped stories, shared laughter, and made memories. He also cherished those times spent with them around a bonfire or gathered around the dinner table, enjoying his wife Vickie's delectable home-cooked meals, be it meatballs, ribs, or catfish.

Though he loved his whole family, it was evident that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren had his heart. Often addressed affectionately as "Pawpaw," Dan made sure his little ones never wanted for anything and spoiled them nearly rotten. After all, their happiness meant the world to him. Because Dan Sipes showered those closest to him with unwavering love and support, his passing will leave an immeasurable void in the lives of his family and friends. But as we reflect on this dear man's life and mourn his loss, let us also remember that this legacy of love will continue to shape and inspire generations to come. Rest easy, Dan, and thank you.

A private family service will be held at a later date, and Dan will be buried in the McDowell Cemetery in Dwight, IL. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of these arrangements.
