Gregory Eugene Cafin

June 27, 1957 — February 7, 2022

Gregory Eugene Cafin, 64, of Washington, IN, formerly of Palestine, IL, passed away on February 7, 2022, at the Daviess Community Hospital Quick Care Clinic in Washington. He was born June 27, 1957, in Robinson, IL, the son of Byrl Eugene Cafin & Betty R. (Harris) Cafin. He grew up in the Robinson area and was a 1976 graduate of Robinson High School. He would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army before a medical discharge brought him back home. Greg was, by all accounts, a free-spirited wayfarer. He took in much of God's creation on foot and enjoyed basking in the natural beauty of the world around him. He was a master barterer, a skill that allowed him to visit a number of states with hardly anything on his person. In short, he was a man who needed precious little to be satisfied and was a genuinely happy, funny guy! Though he lived freely and on his terms, it was never to anyone else's detriment. He was a lover of people, a trait that he put on when he started following Jesus years ago. No matter where life found him, he made church a priority. The last several years found Greg at Wheatland Christian Church, where he was a beloved member of that family of believers. Though his time on earth has ended, we find peace and assurance knowing that his 64 years were but the beginning in light of eternal life with his Savior. He is survived by his sons, Ryan Cafin (Oblong, IL) and Brad Cafin (Oblong, IL); by his grandchildren, Amara Cafin and Toni Schlosser; by his sister, Kathy Myers (Lawrenceville, IL); as well as several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Services will immediately follow and be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Chuck Myers officiating. During the service, family and friends will have the opportunity to share thoughts and memories from Greg's life. Military rites will be accorded by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. A live stream of the service will be available on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Memorial contributions may be made to his memorial fund, with checks made payable to "Goodwine Funeral Homes". Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
