Gerald Wayne "Red" Goodwin, 89, of Oblong, IL, died on March 31, 2023, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN.

Wayne was born on January 12, 1934, in Petersburg, IN, the son of Albert & Ora (Phillips) Goodwin, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Carolyn Littlejohn on July 7, 1956, and she preceded him in death on March 29, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, June Goodwin and Don Goodwin.

He is survived by his children, Angela "Susie" & Joe Cooper, Teresa Sprague and Jerry Goodwin & fiance, Dustan Oakley; by his grandchildren, Jennifer & Tim Kamplain, Michael Carter, Mindy & Raymond Richards, Amber Goodwin & Mike Zakowski, Ashton Dunn, and Mason Black; by several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;

by his sister, Dorothy Lackey, and several nieces and nephews.

Wayne grew up in Southern Indiana. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. Returning from the military, he would go to work for several different businesses. Carolyn and Wayne would move throughout the state of Illinois. Hard work was in his blood. He would work for the street department in Chicago, Robinson Township, Briggs Pottery, and as a carpenter for the union.

Wayne had a love for the outdoors. He could often be found in his garden, hunting with the beagles he raised or restoring his John Deere A, something he found great pride in. Family was important to him, as evidenced by his time working on their demolition derby cars and the many family dinners he hosted.

He was a member of the Crawford County Fair Board and the Oblong American Legion #219.
