George W. Piersall

George W. Piersall, 94, of Robinson, IL, passed away at 10:43 a.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Ridgeview Health and Rehab Center in Oblong, IL. Born on April 5, 1930, in Annapolis, IL, he was the son of Rev. Paul L. Piersall & Phoebe Ruth (Willard) Piersall. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from January 1951 until his honorable discharge in December 1954. He retired as a Fiscal Officer from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency in 1991. He was a member of the Dogwood Prairie United Methodist Church and the Oblong American Legion.

On October 7, 1950, he married Marilyn Battershell, who preceded him in death on February 22, 1992. Also preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Dottie Chapman, Nina Fenton, Neva Mendenhall, and Beverly Bomer; and five brothers, John Piersall, Oscar Piersall, Claude Piersall, Paul Piersall and Leo Piersall.

On May 15, 1993, he married Lola (Clark) Musgrave, and she survives. He is also survived by a daughter & son-in-law, Sherry & Mike Connelly (Riverview, FL); by three sons, Marvin Piersall (Springfield, IL), Mark Piersall (Springfield, IL) and Gerald & wife Rhonda Piersall (Chatham, IL); and by two grandsons, four granddaughters, and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving from his second marriage are three step-children & their spouses, Valarie & Don Dunlap, Nena & David Bostwick, and Corbin & Lisa Musgrave; eight step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandsons.

A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2nd, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3rd, at the funeral home, where military honors will be rendered by the Oblong American Legion Post #219. Pastor Daniel Skelton will officiate the funeral. For those unable to attend, a live stream of the service will be available at www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "Dogwood Prairie United Methodist Church" or the "Oblong American Legion", with envelopes available at the funeral home.

A 3:00 p.m. committal service will be held in the Chatham Memorial Cemetery in Chatham, IL on Saturday.
