George Jenkins, 76, of Shelburn, IN, passed away on June 23, 2022, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He was born on February 15, 1946, in Columbus, OH, the son of Robert & Wilma (Holley) Jenkins, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jane Hornbeak-Jenkins, who passed away on December 11, 2021, and by three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his children, Tom Scott (Farmersburg, IN) and Teresa Jenkins & Tim Harriott (Milford Center, OH); his step-children, Lisa Miller (Shelburn, IN) and Tanya & Albert Tucker (Hammond, IN); his sister, Margaret Vaughn; and by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Though he grew up in Ohio, George moved to Illinois to be with his wife. Much of his time, however, was spent on the road. A truck driver for United Van Lines, he put on countless miles over his career, making many contacts in the process. Back home, he spent quite a bit of time outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Though he enjoyed the peace and stillness of these pastimes, what the man really loved to do was talk! George Jenkins never met a stranger and loved engaging in conversations with anyone who came his way. His friends at the American Legion Post #690 could attest to his friendly, outgoing nature and will miss him dearly, as we all will. He will never be forgotten.
It was George's wish to be cremated, and the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of these arrangements.
