George E. Anderson, 83, of Robinson, IL, passed away on November 9, 2022, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born on April 16, 1939, in Vincennes, IN, the son of William Anderson & Mary (Foster) Anderson. He grew up in Vincennes, IN, and would wear many hats over the course of his career. Among other businesses, he worked for Nelson's Bakery until it shuttered and would go on to work as a baker for Vincennes University for 21 years. In the Robinson area, he worked for Marathon for a short time before finding employment at IGA/County Market for 10 years before they closed their doors. These last few years found him self-employed, repairing lawnmowers in his shop.
George was a man of many interests. As a young man, he was a talented boxer and won a number of bouts in the ring. A sportsman, he hunted rabbits and squirrels and truly loved fishing alongside his son, Jeremiah. Together, they spent countless hours ginseng hunting as well. Back home, he could whip up some of the most delicious baked specialties you'd ever have the chance to enjoy, from homemade biscuits and noodles to his delectable peanut butter fudge and persimmon pudding.
Anyone who knew him could attest to the fact that he would do anything for anybody. That selflessness of spirit will forever be missed by all those who were blessed to have known him.
He is survived by his significant other of 30 years, Lois Dunlap, and her daughter, Barbara Dunlap, who was like a daughter to him; by his son & daughter-in-law, Jeremiah Anderson & Meredith Gentry; by his daughter, Mary Jones; by several grandchildren; by his brother & sister-in-law, B.J. & Linda Anderson; by his sisters, Edith Banks, Patricia Ridge, and Phyllis Vice; and by several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by a daughter at birth and her twin sister, Renee; and by his brothers, William Howard Anderson (in infancy) and Tom Anderson.
A private burial will be held at the Robinson New Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of these arrangements.
