Gene A. Inboden

May 6, 1938 — December 17, 2020

Gene A. Inboden, 82, of Robinson, IL, died December 17, 2020, at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson, IL. He was born May 6, 1938 in Palestine, IL, the son of Ray Inboden & Mildred (Montgomery) Inboden, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Keith Inboden, Larry Inboden, James Inboden, and Phyllis Inboden. He married Phyllis "Jody" Burris on April 25, 1959, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Kathy & Jace Phillips, Lori & Otie Tuttle, Kyle & Machelle Inboden, Scott & Kelli Inboden, and Aaron & Danyelle Inboden; by his grandchildren, Justin Phillips, Jackie Phillips, Luke Phillips, Mia Tapella, Will Tapella, Emily Gullett, Meleah Jordan, Rachel Hoke, Miranda Waddell, Tyler Inboden, Reid Inboden, Riley Inboden, Carson Inboden, Cole Inboden, and Chanel Inboden; by his great-grandchildren, Bella Phillips, Jenna Phillips, Sam Strohl, Ava Strohl, Blake Gullett, Zara Gullett, Maeve Gullett, Sadie Jordan, Bodie Jordan, Wylie Jordan, Easton Waddell, and Lawson Waddell; by his siblings, Russell Inboden and Carolyn Conde; as well as several nieces and nephews. Gene grew up in the Hardinville area and was a 1956 graduate of Robinson High School. Much of his life found him working on cars as a body repair man. His career took him from Bob Hancock Ford and Monty's Body shop to his own business, Gene's Body shop. He finished his career working for the Illinois Department of Transportation. Time away from work typically found Gene tending to the earth. He was a longtime farmer and also kept a beautiful, big garden that would feed his family through the winter months. A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, he grew up watching the likes of Vince Lombardi and Bart Starr, and his love of the team never faded throughout his 82 years. Though it could be said that Gene Inboden lived a quiet, simple life, it would be a mistake to assume that it lacked depth. Though he didn't say much, his selective words always carried wisdom and weight. This man was a living example of how to find joy in the simple things of life, and for that, we are thankful. We are also thankful that he put his life in his Savior's hands years ago when he was baptized during a week of Vacation Bible School at Zion United Methodist Church. We rest in our assurance that on Thursday, he was met with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant". Due to the newly-increased public safety measures being enforced by the State of Illinois, funeral services will be private. However, a live stream of his service will be available to the public starting at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 21st. This can be done on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Gene will be laid to rest in Shire Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the "Robinson Area Food Pantry".
