Gary Roberts, 56, of Robinson, IL, died at 4:00 p.m. (EST) on Monday, September 3, 2018 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He was born November 16, 1961 in Robinson, IL, the son of David & Gladys (Bowman) Roberts. He married Vivian Hussey on March 12, 1982, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Heather & Zac Stephens (Robinson, IL); by his son & daughter-in-law, J.J. & Stevee Roberts (Robinson, IL); by his grandchildren, Maddux, Laine, Landree, and Zoe; by his mother, Gladys Roberts (Annapolis, IL); by his brother & sister-in-law, Greg & Jeanae Roberts (West York, IL); by his sister & brother-in-law, Rita & Clint Corder (Duncanville, IL); by his father-in-law, Bill Hussey, Sr. (Robinson, IL); by his brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Bill Hussey, Jr. & Myrna K. Tinsley Hussey (Mt. Carmel, IL); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and “brothers from another mother”. He was preceded in death by his son, Bryant on November 29, 2000; by his father, David Roberts on June 8, 2014; and by his mother-in-law, Betty Hussey on February 26, 2017. Gary grew up in the Annapolis area and was a 1979 graduate of Hutsonville High School. He worked at Rural King for over 30 years before an accident forced him into an early retirement in 2015. He was a lifelong and avid Chicago Cubs fan, and few things brought him more joy than simply following his guys in blue and red. Anyone who knew him could attest to the fact that he never met a stranger. He had a friendly demeanor that attracted all kinds, especially children. His grandkids meant everything to him, and they, along with the rest of his family, were a source of light in his life. Gary Roberts’ legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849, and the Jack Daniels Tennessee Squire Association. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. A Masonic Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Palestine Masonic Lodge #849 rendering the service. A memorial service will follow, during which, an opportunity will be provided for friends and family to share in Gary’s life. Celebrant Curt Goodwine will officiate. Memorials may be made to his memorial fund, with checks made payable to “Goodwine Funeral Homes”. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
