Gary L. Davis, 62, of Robinson, IL, died at 8:45 p.m. (E.S.T.) Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN. He was born January 9, 1947 in Robinson, IL, the son of Harry Davis and Mary Robinson Davis. He graduated from Robinson High School in 1965 and attended the Eastern Illinois University, graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing. He served in the U. S. Army Security Agency as a Wire Traffic Analysist. He served in Vietnam during the TET offensive and 2 years in West Germany in security. He served with the Illinois State Police from January 1974 to January 1993. He retired as Acting Commander of Zone 12, Effingham, IL. He was a Senior Investigator for fraud for the Erie Insurance Company since 2002. He was instrumental in founding the Southeastern Illinois Drug Task Force in 1989 and was a supervisor of that unit. He was an alderman for the City of Robinson from 1987 to 1989. He was Mayor of Robinson from 1989 to 1993, and from 2005 to the present. He was elected Mayor again in 2009. He was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post #69, a life member of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549; and a member of the Robinson Elks Lodge #1188. He was also a Charter member of the Highland Church of Christ.He married Janice McCrory October 1, 1966 and she survives. He is also survived by his 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Darren and Carmen Davis, Robinson, Perry and Andrea Davis, Effingham; his daughter, Sara Davis, Robinson; 3 grandchildren, Daniel Davis, Zachary Davis, Hannah Davis; and his brother and sister-in-law, Gale Lynn and Kim Davis, Hutsonville.He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Kelli Anne Davis.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Highland Church of Christ, Robinson with Revs. Mark and Mont Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 8th at the Highland Church of Christ and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church preceding the services. Honors will be presented by the Illinois State Police Honor Guard and the combined units of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, and the Amvets Post #33.Memorials may be made to the V. F. W. Post #4549 Transportation Fund, Crawford Memorial Hospital Foundation, or to the Lawrence/Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens.
