Gary Lewis, 60, of Robinson, IL, died April 2, 2020, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 25, 1959, in Vincennes, IN, the son of Raymond Lewis & Virginia "Anne" (Hayes) Lewis, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Jeanette Barrett on September 9, 2011, and she survives. He is also survived by his sons, Travis & Melinda Lewis (Robinson, IL) and Marcus Lewis (Robinson, IL); by his step-children, Sammy Elmo Stevenson V, Joshua Kurtis Stevenson, and Jami Stevenson; by his grandchildren, Kody, Selena, Johanna, and Jade; by his brothers & sisters-in-law, Alan & Jana Lewis (Palestine, IL) and Mick & Debbie Lewis (Oblong, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Gary grew up in the Oblong area and was a 1978 graduate of Oblong High School. He would eventually go on to serve his country in the National Guard during Desert Storm, and we who remain are humbled by the depth of selflessness that it took for Gary to surrender himself for the freedoms of his fellow man. Anyone who knew him could attest to the man's work ethic. He was a dedicated employee with Briggs Pottery until it closed, at which point, he got on as a machinist at Victor Dana, where he has worked for the past 20 years until poor health forced him to put an end to his career. Though he was a hard worker, he also knew how to enjoy himself. All Gary needed to be happy was a fishing pole and a pond to fish in, and so that's what he spent much of his free time doing. He also spent countless hours at the pool table was a member of the VNEA Pool League. He was also a member of the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Gary will be remembered as a man who didn't need much in the way of bells and whistles. Instead, he enjoyed the simple things in life. In this way, we have much to learn from the way men like Gary Lewis lived. In light of the CDC's recommendation and the State of Illinois' mandate to limit public gatherings to no more than ten (10) people, there will be no public visitation. However, Gary's family would like to invite you to take part by viewing the livestream of his graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6th.
