Gary "Chilly" Chillingworth

February 1, 1954 — January 19, 2021

Gary "Chilly" Chillingworth, 66, of Robinson, IL, died January 19, 2021, in the comfort of his son's home, following a period of failing health. He was born February 1, 1954, in Amityville, NY, the son of William P. & Eleanor L. (Harrison) Chillingworth, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Brad Chillingworth & fiancée, KayCee McDaniel (Robinson, IL); by his grandson, Xander Chillingworth (Robinson, IL); and by his "lady-friend", Sherry Tedford (Robinson, IL), her children, Jennifer, Derek, and Breanna, and four-legged friend, Chloe. Chilly grew up in the Robinson area, where he landed a job as a caster at Briggs Pottery at the young age of 18. He worked here for over 20 years before they closed their doors, at which point, he got on with Big Buck (now Niehaus) Lumber. It was evident that he cared deeply not only about his job but about those he worked with as well. His work ethic and others-centeredness led him to become the store's manager, a position he held for several years. Chilly was, by all accounts, a car fanatic. He had a penchant for muscle cars and was especially drawn to Dodge Chargers and Challengers, though he could hardly keep a vehicle any longer than a couple of years! He also enjoyed countless hours riding his motorcycle, and made numerous trips down south, including the world-famous "Tail of the Dragon" at Deals Gap. He paired his love of the road with his love of camping. Earlier in his life, he could often be found setting up camp in Sullivan, but recently found himself gracing the grounds of Whispering Oaks. No matter where he went, chances were, he'd strike up a conversation. It was evident in the way he interacted with others that the man simply didn't know a stranger. Those of us blessed enough to know him will remember Chilly as a big-hearted man who would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need. Though he could be more than a little stubborn at times, it was obvious that his primary concern was the good of his fellow man. The way he lived his life points to the faith that he clung to throughout his 66 years; a faith that has now been made sight. A public visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Under Phase 4 Mitigations, public attendance is allowed, but only up to 50 attendees. Thusly, social distancing measures will be in place, and it will be required that all visitors wear face coverings while in the building. In honor of his love of animals, memorials may be made to the "Crawford County Humane Society", and envelopes will be available at the funeral home. A live stream of his service will be available starting at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. This can be viewed on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Gary will be laid to rest in the Robinson New Cemetery.
