Born February 26, 1929, in Mingo County, West Virginia, Garnet was the daughter of Uley Perry and Hallie Cline Perry. While at Berea College she met, and in 1948 married Clifford Layne Van Horn of Louisa, Kentucky, who preceded her in death on May 30, 2000. Garnet had many dear friends with whom she shared many activities. She loved to read and for ten years was leader of the book club sponsored by the Robinson Public Library. She was also active in various bridge clubs throughout the years. Garnet was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and looked forward to the start of each new season. Friends and family knew better than to call her during a game. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Rosanna and Ken Fitts and Michele and Stan Baird, both of Evansville, Indiana, and by her grandchildren Sara Fitts, Eric Fitts, and Zachary Baird. She is also survived by brothers Dr. Simon Perry (Francis), Huey Perry (Jill), Winston Perry (Joyce) and by sisters Drema Ferrell (Carl) and Kathleen Punturi and by her sister-in-law Dreama Perry as well as many nieces and nephews.
