Francine Phillips of Palestine, IL, died February 10, 2020, at the remarkable age of 104. Born to Ed and Frances DePoister on October 21, 1915, in Indianapolis, IN, she lived most of her life in Palestine after moving there when her father became an engineer on the Illinois Central Railroad. On June 27, 1936, she married Kent Phillips, well-respected local attorney, who died in 2005. During his absence in WWII she replaced him as Secretary of the Palestine Building and Loan and later managed his insurance agency. Her preferred vocation, though, was homemaker, and she continued to enjoy all things home-related well in to her 100+ years. She is survived by daughters Susan Colin (Chuck) of Naples, FL and Valparaiso, IN, and Mary Ann Gerrity (John) of Naples, FL and Palestine, IL. A son, Craig, died in infancy. Five grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren also survive. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with Pastor Karen Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either the "Palestine Public Library" or to the Palestine Preservation Projects Society ("PPPS"), with envelopes available at the funeral home.
