Floyd Russell "Rusty" Osborn, Jr.

May 31, 1944 — May 30, 2021

Floyd Russell "Rusty" Osborn, Jr., 76, of Robinson, IL, died Sunday, May 30, 2021 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family. He was born May 31, 1944, in Robinson, the son of Floyd Osborn & Norma Imogene (Shidler) Osborn, both of whom preceded him in death. He married his beloved wife, Shirley Bergbower, on March 8, 1980, and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard N. Osborn, and by his sister, Norma Jean McSchooler. He is survived by his son, Jesse Wayne Osborn; by his daughters & sons-in-law, Debra Heleine, Deanna & Kenny Rogers, Michele & Don Fitts, Richele & Scott Beard, Joanna Osborn, and Jackie & Reggie Johnson; by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by his sisters, Phyllis VanSchoyck and Twyla Daugherty; as well as several nieces and nephews. Rusty grew up in the Robinson area and was a 1962 graduate of RHS. He would go on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army before retiring in June of 1971. Back home, he found work as a pipefitter, work that he enjoyed nearly as much as the camaraderie it provided him. While he was pipefitting, he was also putting in countless hours of hard work tending the earth as a farmer. Anyone who knew him could attest to his love of guns. Few things brought him more enjoyment than going out and firing off a few rounds. Eventually, this passion led him to teach gun safety, and he was happy to provide this service to his community. A longtime Shriner, Rusty also helped many young families get the help they needed by driving them to the Shriners Children's Hospital. He and his son and longtime sidekick, Jesse, were staples at the Shriners' cookout at the park every year. He was also a longtime and active member of the Robinson Masonic Lodge #250, taking part in numerous functions over the years. When he wasn't busy cooking something delicious in the kitchen, the twilight years of his life often found him on his computer, to the point that he became a self-professed "Facebook junkie"! Though he could be more than a little headstrong, we who are left behind to mourn his passing will never forget the service Rusty Osborn selflessly gave to his family, to his community, and to his country. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Masonic funeral rites will be accorded at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 7th, at the funeral home with his friend, Pastor Lee Gurley, officiating. A live stream of Rusty's service will be available on Goodwine Funeral Homes' Facebook page or by going to https://www.goodwinefuneralhomes.com/live-stream/live-stream . Burial will be in the Hutsonville Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, the Robinson American Legion Post #69, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Memorials may be made to the "Shriners Hospitals for Children", with envelopes available at the funeral home.
