Evelyn Lenore Cunefare

March 16, 1937 — March 5, 2019

Evelyn Lenore Cunefare, 82, of Robinson, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at her home. Evelyn was born March 16, 1937, in Oblong, IL, the daughter of Dorsey F. and Blanch (Welker) Kirk, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Arthur Eugene Cunefare on May 7, 1961. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Donald R. Kirk and Charles E. Kirk, and daughter-in-law Barbara (Earnest) Cunefare. She is survived by her son, Michael Cunefare, (Bethalto, IL); daughters & sons-in-law, Carolyn & Mark Vogelzang (Monticello, IL) and Tracy & Todd Weger (Champaign, IL); and grandchildren, Ryan & wife Brittany Cunefare, Kyle Cunefare, Paige Vogelzang, and Nicholas Vogelzang. She is also survived by her sister & brother-in-law, Rosemary & Rex McGehee (Oblong, IL); and sister-in-law, Theresa Kirk (Robinson, IL). Evelyn grew up in the Oblong area and was a 1954 graduate of Oblong High School. She furthered her education at Lockyear Business College in Evansville, where she earned her secretarial certificate. Evelyn would work for a number of local businesses over the years, but anyone who knew her could attest to the fact that she dedicated her life to making a home for her beloved family. She married Arthur Cunefare on May 7, 1961. They lived in Springfield and Decatur for a short time and then moved to Robinson IL where they lived for around twenty years. In 1975, the Cunefare family moved to a house at R.R. 4, Robinson, IL, that Art built. Our family enjoyed nine happy years there. In 1985, Art was transferred to Findlay, OH, as a pilot with Marathon Oil Company. They lived in Findlay for several years. When Art retired, they returned to Robinson, IL for the remainder of their lives. Much of their retirement was spent square dancing, and these were some of the happiest years of their lives. Evelyn was a much-loved homemaker and mother. One of Evelyn’s greatest gifts to her children was the love of cooking. There are many cherished recipes in her children’s personal recipe boxes. To this day, there is only one kind of sugar cookie that can be made at Christmas. Evelyn loved to garden for many years and put away many containers of home-canned tomatoes and frozen sweet corn. She will be missed by all her family and friends. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Dee Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Flowers or remembrance gifts may be sent to the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Oblong First Christian Church or to the Oblong Children’s Home, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
