Ernest Andrew Shidler, 86, of rural Flat Rock, IL, died at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, January 14, 2007 at his residence. He was born August 10, 1920 in Lawrenceville, IL, the son of Norman Q. Shidler and Minnie Ellen Montgomery Shidler. He was a self-employed oilfield worker. He served in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a member of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549.He married Margaret “Lucille” Moore February 24, 1940 and she preceded him in death on December 20, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 2 grandchildren, Bill Marlowe and Eric Shidler; 1 great grandchild, Haley Potts; 1 brother, Lindsey Shidler; 5 sisters, Velma Brannon, Katie Hudson, Imogene Osborn, Ruby Shidler and Mabel Fitts.He is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Deisher, rural Flat Rock, Sharon and Rick Potts, Oblong; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Donnis and Paula Shidler, Robinson, Ernest Andrews Shidler, Jr. and Sharon, Robinson; 12 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.Funeral services will be healed at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson with Brother Mark Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. Wednesday preceding the services. Military graveside services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, Robinson American Legion Post #69, Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, and the Palestine AmVets Post #33. Memorials may be made to the V. F. W. Post #4549 Transportation Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
