Ellen Naydene Sandefer

June 2, 1943 — January 29, 2022

Ellen Naydene Sandefer, 78, of Robinson, IL, died January 29, 2022, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. She was born June 2, 1943, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Franklin & Jeanette (Reynolds) Kamplain, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Loretta Tracy, Rosie Dorney, Gail Hall, and Louise Melton; and by her brother, Earl Kamplain. She is survived by her three children, Belinda Sue Dale (Robinson, IL), Robert Alan Scherer (Olney, IL), and Ailene Naydene Nesbit (Greenwood, IN); by her son-in-law, Steve Trotter (Robinson, IL); by her grandchildren, Laura & Jeff Hargitt (Sacramento, CA), Greg & Kelsey Howard (Granger, IN), Chris & Candi Howard (West Union, IL), Beth & Shawn Clements (Robinson, IL), Kyle & Alicia Loy (Greenwood, IN); by her great-grandchildren, Taylor & Spencer, Riliegh, Emily, Lucy, Colin, Aubrey, Polly, Shawn Jr, and Ford; by her great-great-grandson, Aidyn; by her brother, Ron Kamplain; as well as several nieces and nephews. Naydene grew up on the outskirts of Robinson and was a 1962 graduate of Robinson High School. She would go on to work at the Ettelbrick Shoe Factory for a number of years before they closed their doors. Soon after, she became a CNA and spent the rest of her career caring for the residents of Cotillion Ridge. Away from work, she spent countless hours whipping together delicious delicacies in her kitchen. Her homemade noodles and goulash were the stuff of legend, and her sugar cookies were, by all accounts, mouth-watering. These were staples of the various parties Naydene planned over the years. Anyone who had the good fortune of attending one of her events could tell you: the woman could put on one heck of a party! Family get-togethers often set the scene for card games, especially Rummy. She and her loved ones would spend hours (and hours) playing cards, and this was a great source of joy in her life, as was quilting. Few things brought her more satisfaction than stitching together pieces that will be treasured family heirlooms for years to come. The twilight years of her life found Naydene working adult coloring books. She would pour herself into color selection and made beautiful works of art that anyone would be proud of. We who are left behind are thankful that Naydene Sandefer colored our lives with elegance and a warm smile that reflected her tender heart. We will never, nor could we ever forget her.
