Elaine Jones

Elaine Jones, 84, of Birds, IL, died at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 at Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL. She was born on December 24, 1934 in Birds, IL, the daughter of Clarence Jones & Merle (Sims) Jones; both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Jones; and by her cousin, Vera Thompson. She is survived by her cousins, Tracey Lackey (Lawrenceville, IL), Carla Pendergrass (Evansville, IN), and Carmen & Biff McCullough (Birds, IL); as well as her dear friend, Becca Devin (Robinson, IL). Elaine was a proud, lifelong resident of Birds, and was a graduate of Lawrenceville High School. Though she worked at the Rechter Brothers Clothing Store, much of her life was devoted to caring for her sister, Sarah. Elaine was, by all accounts, a lover of southern gospel music and was especially fond of the Blackwoods Brothers Quartet. She was a quiet soul who lived a life of simplicity. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17th at the Jones Cemetery with Rev. Roger Boyd officiating. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the “Birds Free Methodist Church” with envelopes available at the cemetery.
