Edward Winston Mason, 67, of Robinson, IL, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on May 1, 2021, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family and beloved pets, Midnight, Wrigley, and Raven. Ed was born November 29, 1953, in Robinson, IL, the son of Jack & Nellie (Fitts) Mason, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Larry Mason and Danny Mason, and by his in-laws, Lyle & Doris Stone. Ed married his high school sweetheart, Colleen Stone Mason, and they were married for 46 years before his passing. He is also survived by his daughter, Stacy Mason (Robinson, IL); by his grandson and pride and joy, Seth Mason (Robinson, IL); by his two sisters, Mona Wait (Flat Rock, IL) and Becky Blackard (Mt. Juliet, TN); by his sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law, Linda & Steve McDaniel, Jim & Nita Stone, Diane Stone, and Debby Capener Mason; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ed grew up in the Robinson area and was a proud member of the Babe Ruth baseball team that went to State when he was 14 years old. A 1972 graduate of Robinson High School, he found work at Briggs in 1975, and continued working as a greenware grader until they closed their doors in 1999. At this point, he got on with Hershey as a PayDay runner and would continue to work in this capacity until retiring in 2014. Anyone who knew Ed could attest to his love of music, to the point that he earned his broadcast license. This allowed him to DJ at WTAY, a side job he truly relished from 1980-1983. Facebook allowed him to continue to share his passion for music, as he was known to post songs from years gone by for his many family and friends to enjoy. They could speak to the man's love of Chicago sports, namely, the Cubs and Bears, two teams that provided him with equal shares of enjoyment and grief through the years! He was also known for his love of newspapers. In fact, he was once subscribed to over seven different daily papers at one time. When Colleen was deployed or traveling, he would always look forward to the local newspapers from all the cities she visited, even if they were in a foreign language! Though he wasn't much of a gambler, he was drawn to the lights and sights of Las Vegas. Back home, few things scratched that itch quite like the Fourth of July and the copious fireworks he bought through the years. His love of spectacle and flash was in direct contrast to his quiet, reserved nature. His precious family will long remember Ed Mason as a caring, supportive man who lived and loved from the heart. We will never, nor could we ever, forget him. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate his life from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 7th, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. In memory of their beloved sports fan, Ed's family requests that guests attend wearing sports attire. In honor of the love he had for his pets (including his cats, Taffy, Freedom, and Socks, who will be waiting for him), memorial donations may be made to the "Crawford County Humane Society". Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. *Please note that COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. Thusly, masks and social distancing will be required on-premises.*
