Edith Mae York

March 5, 1931 — November 22, 2022

Edith Mae York, 91, formerly of West York, IL, went home to the arms of her loving Savior at 1:02 p.m. on November 22, 2022, while at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute, IN.

Edith was born March 5, 1931, in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Virgil & Martha (Daugherty) Bridgewater. On September 13, 1951, she married Everett T. York, Sr. During their 58 years of marriage, they had nine children, including Michael Dixiano (Kenai, AK) from a previous marriage, Martha Molinet (Marshall, IL), Mark & Judy York (Flora, IL), Everett Tom & Cathy York (West York, IL), Eddie & Shirley York (Topeka, KS), Myra & Gary Otey (Carbondale, IL), Virgil York (Kingman, AZ), Eric & Missy York (West York, IL), and Randy York (Marshall, IL). In addition to her children, Edith is also survived by 19 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, Larry Bridgewater (KS).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil & Martha Bridgewater; her husband, Everett York; and her sisters, Kathleen Rollings and Elaine Stevenson.

Edith's faith in Jesus Christ was her strength throughout her life. She was raised as a child in the West Union Church of the Nazarene, where she attended for most of her life, until the last 3-4 months when it became difficult for her to get out. Once anyone met her, it wouldn't be long before she spoke of her faith and her family. She loved her family: her kids, grandkids, and greats with all her heart! This was evident by all her photos of them on her walls. She spent most of her life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Once her children were older, Edith had a few jobs outside the home, but she always had time to spend with her grandkids. She was always a good cook, and with nine kids, she had to be!

She enjoyed music, animals, and nature (though she was not a fan of snakes!) She also had a passion for sketching, drawing, and coloring in her younger years and spent many hours coloring with her grandkids.

About six years ago, Edith's health started declining and she was no longer able to stay in her home. She spent the last few years of her life at Marshall Rehab and Nursing in Marshall, IL, and spent the last few days of her life under hospice care until she passed into her heavenly home.
