Edith L. Rice

Edith L. “Edie” Rice, 78 of Flat Rock, IL, died at 10:58 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. She was born May 3, 1928 in Jasper County, IL, the daughter of William Hoover and Vera Sears Hoover. She was a homemaker and a member of the Flat Rock First Missionary Baptist Church.She married Robert E. Rice May 3, 1947 and he survives. She is also survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert D. “George” and Beth Rice, Robinson, Gregory Dee and Jeanne Rice, rural Robinson; 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Dee Hoover, Matlacha, FL; 3 sisters, Florence Graham, Carlisle, IN, Ella “Polly” Wartsbaugh, Oblong, and Naomi “Tootie” Campbell, Charlotte, NC; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Gary on August 4, 1989; 3 brothers, Harvey, Lawrence “Nip”, and Garland “John” Hoover; and her sister, Emma Clark.Funeral services will be Friday, February 2nd at 11:30 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. Pastor Roger Boyd is in charge of services with burial in the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Visitation is Friday preceding the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to service time at 11:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice or to the National Kidney Foundation, with envelopes at the funeral home.
