Edith I. Rodgers

January 3, 1931 — September 12, 2018

Edith Irene Rodgers, 87, of rural Robinson, IL, died at 10:29 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. She was born January 3, 1931 in Flat Rock, the daughter of Lewis Samuel Rich & Mary Augusta (Wallace) Rich. Edith grew up in the Flat Rock area and was a 1948 graduate of Flat Rock High School. She furthered her education at the University of Illinois before her father’s health brought her back home, where she would marry Kenneth Wayne Rodgers on November 24, 1949. Edith dedicated her life to caring for her home and all of those inside of it. She “lived her love”, so to speak, and was self-sacrificing, almost to a fault. She was a lifelong member of the South Union church in Flat Rock, where she has played either the piano or organ since her teenage years. Later in life, she earned her Associates of Science and Arts from Lincoln Trail College, cementing her standing as a hard-working and fiercely independent woman. Edith Rodgers’ family has lost a matriarch; her church, a treasured member; and her community, a shining example of integrity and goodness. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Larry & Elaine Rodgers (rural Robinson, IL); by her daughter & son-in-law, Susan & Daniel Polgar (rural Robinson, IL); by her granddaughters, Adrienne McDonald, Emberlyn Polgar, and Kensey Ann Lyons; by four great-grandchildren, Violet, Samuel, Gabriel, and Darcy; by her sister-in-law, Patricia Rich (Robinson, IL); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wayne Rodgers; by her parents, Lewis & Mary Rich; by her son, Mark Rodgers; and by her brothers, Oliver Ray Rich (in infancy) and Burl Rich. A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16th at the South Union Church in Flat Rock. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17th at the church with Pastor Ron Price officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Tohill Cemetery. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Lawrence/Crawford Association for Exceptional Citizens, with envelopes available at the church.
