Dustin Andrew Dillery, 41, of Robinson, IL, passed away on April 9, 2024, at IU Health University Hospital. Born on July 16, 1982, in Bloomington, IN, his zest for life and infectious laughter left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Dustin grew up in Mooresville, IN, a place where he cultivated a treasury of stories from his adventures riding bikes and walking the railroad tracks. His childhood was filled with the kind of tales that could keep an audience captivated for hours. He graduated from the school of life with a major in hard work and a minor in unwavering dedication, skills that he carried into his adult life.
His work ethic was as solid as the buildings he helped construct, and Dustin put his hands to good use in various construction roles throughout the years. His commitment to his community was evident through his service in the Indiana National Guard and as a volunteer firefighter for both Decatur Township and Bloomfield, IN. Dustin's most recent endeavor was as a truck driver for Ruan Transportation, and together with his sons, he founded DBC Lawncare, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and his commitment to family. His dedication to his boys was also evident at their every ballgame. Dustin was their loudest and proudest supporter in the stands, bringing an enthusiasm that could ignite the crowd. A football fan at heart, his love for the Indianapolis Colts was well-known, but his interests didn't stop at the football field; he was a gun aficionado, a self-proclaimed weather nut, and a motorcycle enthusiast who cherished the freedom of the open road.
At home, Dustin's hands were rarely still, always tinkering, building, or repairing. His natural ability to fix and build was only matched by his eagerness to help others. Time and again, his heart of gold shone brightly as he would drop everything to lend a hand to those in need. He was the embodiment of a man who wore his heart on his sleeve, and his friendly demeanor made him one of the most loving people you'd ever encounter.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Dustin Andrew Dillery did not just pass through this world; he left it a brighter place with his indomitable spirit, his enduring love, and his ability to make the ordinary extraordinary. He has left us with a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to shine in the hearts of those he touched forever.
He is survived by his beloved children, Bryan Dillery, Conner Dillery, Oliviah Dillery, and Ethan Dillery; his grandson, Jax Dillery; his father, David Dillery; his mother, Terri Dillery; his grandfather, W.D. & Marshia VanSlyke, Sr.; his uncles, Kenneth & Becky VanSlyke and Kevin & Chrisella VanSlyke; his aunt, Becky VanSlyke; his brother, Joshua & Mecca Dillery; by several nieces and nephews; and the mother of his children, Angel Dillery. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Wanda (Owings) VanSlyke; his maternal great-grandparents, Wallace & Esther (Shute) Owings; and his uncle, Dean VanSlyke, Jr.
A private family service will be held at a later date, and the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of these arrangements. His family requests that memorial contributions be made to his memorial fund, with checks made payable to "Goodwine Funeral Homes".
